End-of-Day Closing Checklist

Ensure nothing is left open at end of day and the team is set up for tomorrow.

SOP Steps

  1. 1

Review open tasks and update statuses

Go through your task list and update the status of every open item — mark completed tasks done, update in-progress items, and flag anything blocked.

  2. 2

    Reply to any outstanding messages

Clear your inbox and message queue: reply to anything that needs a response today and flag anything that can wait until tomorrow.

  3. 3

Log daily notes/updates in team tracker

Post a brief daily update in the team's shared tracker or standup channel summarizing what you completed and what's in progress.

  4. 4

    Set tomorrow's top 3 priorities

Write down the 3 most important things you need to accomplish tomorrow. This primes your brain and reduces decision fatigue at the start of the next day.

  5. 5

    Clear inbox or flag follow-ups

Archive or file emails you've handled. Flag anything that needs follow-up tomorrow so nothing gets lost overnight.

  6. 6

Back up any work in progress

Save and sync any files, documents, or code changes to ensure no work is lost if there's a system issue overnight.

  7. 7

    Send EOD update to manager

If required, send a brief end-of-day summary to your manager: what you completed, any blockers, and your plan for tomorrow.

  8. 8

    Log out of systems

Sign out of all company systems and tools, especially on shared or unsecured devices, to protect company data.
